VIDEO: Attorney General Jay Jones Releases Statement on NextEra Energy and Dominion Energy Merger Following His Filing of Testimony in Opposition to the Transaction 

RICHMOND, Va. -- Attorney General Jay Jones released the following video on the heels of filing testimony before the State Corporation Commission (SCC) that opposes the proposed merger between NextEra Energy and Dominion Energy.  

Video Transcript: 

Virginia, it is Attorney General Jay Jones and I wanted to take just a second to talk to you about this merger between Dominion Energy and NextEra.  

This would create the largest energy company on the planet.   

But right now, in Virginia we have some foundational issues with our energy system that we have to address: the grid is overworked, we need more energy to meet the demand that we have, and costs are too high for every single one of us.  

And that’s exactly why we have opposed this merger in front of the SCC, because the transaction won’t do anything to address those fundamental issues.  

My job as your Attorney General is to protect you, to make sure that we’re getting the best deal possible and the best outcome for every single Virginian.  

This won’t help with costs.  

This won't help with foundational problems.  

And my obligation is to make sure that we get the best deal for each and every one of us here in the Commonwealth.  

My office is committed to this, and we will be working extremely hard to advocate for you in front of the SCC throughout this entire process to make sure that we get the best deal for Virginia.
