ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL
The attorney will provide representation and a wide variety of legal services to Radford University, a comprehensive public university of more than 10,000 students. The position is based in Richmond, and regular travel to Radford will be required.
DUTIES: It is anticipated that the attorney will handle a broad range of legal matters, serving all divisions of the institution. Serving as agency counsel requires advising decision-makers throughout the organization on the legal risks and obligations associated with their duties as employees or board members. Counsel may also represent RU in state or federal court, before regulatory bodies and to third parties in pre-litigation and transactional matters. Additionally, this individual will provide other legal services to the Commonwealth as directed the Office of the Attorney General.
QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidate will have excellent analytical abilities and written and oral communication skills and be able to respond to legal requests in a timely fashion. Excellent interpersonal skills are also required. High level organizational skills and an ability to manage many projects simultaneously and work under pressure are required. A minimum of five years’ experience in the general practice of law is required. Preference will be given to applicants with specific experience in the representation higher education institutions. This position will be based at the Office of the Attorney General in Richmond. Admission to the Virginia Bar is required before beginning employment. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
