FINANCIAL RECOVERY SECTION (FRS)

DUTIES: The mission of FRS is to advance the interests of the taxpayers of Virginia by providing legal advice and services to appropriately, cost-effectively, and aggressively secure recoveries on claims in favor of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The position contributes to the section’s mission by providing administrative and business operations support within its Business Administration Unit. The position specializes in performing file intake and initial file management for claims referred to the section by client agencies with health care related accounts receivable and third-party liability claims. The position specializes in processing liens on private personal injury and wrongful death claims on behalf of the Department of Medical Assistance Services to reimburse the Medicaid program for its payment of medical services provided to injured Medicaid recipients. Essential tasks include promptly opening new files in FRS’s case management system; performing initial review and investigation of accounts; compiling related records and obtaining supporting documents from clients and third parties; and preparing accounts for referral to the responsible legal team pursuant to established protocol. This position also acts as the initial liaison or point of contact for client-agencies with medical related accounts to guide them through the claim referral process.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent organizational skills; the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; analytical and investigative skills; the ability to prioritize the demands of a high-volume caseload; knowledge of legal principles, practices, and processes; and the ability to work both independently and as a team member to successfully complete routine and varied assignments within prescribed time limits and under established protocols. Experience in medical billing is a plus, along with working with the Medicaid program. The position supports itself and requires word processing skills and account or case database management skills. The successful candidate will be subject to a criminal background check, and a valid driver’s license is required.

 

SALARY:  Starting salary commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications.
