ASSOCIATE UNIVERSITY COUNSEL/ ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA

The attorney, based on the campus of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, will serve the Attorney General under the direction of the Chief of the Education Section and the University Counsel, and will provide representation and a wide variety of legal services to the University. The University of Virginia is comprised of eleven schools in Charlottesville, an academic medical center, plus the College at Wise in Southwest Virginia.

DUTIES: It is anticipated that the attorney will handle a broad range of legal matters, serving all divisions of the institution, in coordination with the other attorneys in the Office of the University Counsel. Areas of emphasis may include contract, and/or transactional matters related to procurement, sponsored research, non-disclosure agreements, and University-Associated Organizations.  The position may also assist current attorneys in the office, as needed, in the areas of real estate and finance.  Additionally, the individual will provide other legal services to the University and the Commonwealth as directed by the University Counsel and the Office of the Attorney General.

QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidate will have excellent analytical abilities and written and oral communication skills and be able to respond to legal requests in a timely fashion.  A minimum of five years of experience in the general practice of law is required. Preference will be given to applicants with specific experience in the representation higher education institutions.  Excellent interpersonal skills are also required. High level organizational skills and an ability to manage many projects simultaneously and work under pressure are required. Must be admitted to the Virginia bar or eligible for immediate admission. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
