MAJOR CRIMES AND EMERGING THREATS SECTION

 

DUTIES:  The Major Crimes and Emerging Threats Section is the primary prosecutorial arm of the Office of the Attorney General.  This position will be funded as part of a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) designation and service agreement.  This position will be based in the United States Attorney's Office, Eastern District, Alexandria, Virginia.  The majority of the attorney’s time will be devoted to criminal investigations, prosecutions and litigation of narcotics trafficking cases in federal court and handling other matters as needed.  This position requires extensive knowledge of the state and federal criminal justice systems and prosecuting crimes involving Drug Trafficking Organizations.  HIDTA service agreements last for one year and are typically renewable.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicants must have graduated from an accredited law school and be admitted to the Virginia State Bar or be eligible for admission.  The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of relevant experience, including prosecutorial experience in Virginia and federal courts as well as experience conducting criminal investigations through grand juries.  Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are required as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to analyze and manage complex cases.  An ability to work independently and serve as a liaison with varying organizations is essential.
