CHILD SUPPORT ENFORCEMENT SECTION
EASTERN VIRGINIA DISTRICT OFFICE

 

DUTIES:  Represents the Division of Child Support Enforcement of the Virginia Department of Social Services in its mission to determine paternity and establish, modify, and enforce support obligations.  Responsibilities include litigating in state and federal courts; providing legal advice, counsel, and training to the Division in cases, program guidance, and procedure; developing and maintaining open communication and positive relationships with the courts; cultivating and fostering a positive attorney-client relationship with the Division; performing administrative duties; supervising legal staff/personnel; attending conferences, seminars, and continuing legal education; preparing and presenting training and informational programs; and completing special projects as assigned.  This position is located in the Eastern Virginia District Office in Norfolk, Virginia.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Excellent litigation, organization, research, writing, and interpersonal skills are required.  Proficiency in time management and ability to work independently with client agency and as a team member are essential.  The optimal candidate will have significant litigation experience and the ability to prioritize the demands of a large caseload.  Prior experience in representing a governmental entity preferred but not required.  The candidate must be willing to travel.  Must be admitted to the Virginia bar. 

 

SALARY:  Starting salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
