OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL
SEXUALLY VIOLENT PREDATOR CIVIL COMMITMENT SECTION
CIVIL LITIGATION DIVISION - RICHMOND

DUTIES:  Position provides secretarial and administrative support to Section Chief and eight attorneys, and serves all Section members as the first level of assistance regarding information systems and other administrative problems and procedures.  The position works with the Section Chief on the administrative management of the Section (compliance with Office policies and procedures, files, special projects).  Secretarial duties include typing, opening new files, filing pleadings and correspondence, copying and scanning documents, answering Section telephone, creating and maintaining legal document databases, completing travel and other administrative forms for attorneys, and administering the Section's record retention responsibilities. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional secretarial and organizational skills as well as technical proficiency using Microsoft Word (typing skill of 60-70 wpm), a working knowledge of legal procedures, and the ability to exercise logical reasoning in decision making.  Because of frequent telephone contact with Court staff, expert witnesses, court reporters, and opposing counsel, excellent communication skills, including a courteous and professional demeanor, are required.  A candidate also must demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure and adjust priorities without close supervision.  The position requires the ability to work independently and as a member of a team.  A candidate must demonstrate leadership skills indicative of possessing the ability to work with the Section Chief, Section attorneys, and Division administrative managers in managing the day-to-day administrative operations of the Section. The opportunity exists for the successful candidate to start as a legal secretary senior depending upon experience.  Starting salary commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.
